ADHD and Autism Assessments
New ADHD Assessment Referral Process – from 3 November 2025
From Monday 3rd November 2025, there will be a new way to refer adults for an ADHD assessment in South East London.
A new Adult ADHD Referrals Triage Service is being introduced to make the process fairer and more consistent for everyone. This service is for adults aged 18 and over who are registered with a GP in Lambeth.
If you speak to your GP about possible ADHD for the first time, your GP will now refer you to this new triage service.
Here’s what will happen:
-
Your GP will check you meet the criteria and send your referral.
-
The triage team will review your referral and arrange an appointment with an ADHD clinician if suitable.
-
After your triage, you’ll receive information about NHS and Patient Choice options for a full ADHD assessment.
This service helps make sure that everyone is assessed fairly, and that referrals are sent to the right place.
Important notes:
-
This change only affects new referrals for a first ADHD assessment.
-
If you have already been referred or are on a waiting list, nothing changes for you.
-
If you have already been diagnosed with ADHD, this does not affect your care.
We understand that you have the option to use the “Right to Choose” pathway or seek a private assessment and treatment. However, please note that from June 2024, Clapham Family Practice will no longer be able to take over prescribing of ADHD medications under a Shared Care agreement with any organisation outside of the 3Borough Service. From that point, we will only accept Shared Care for ADHD medication prescribed through the 3Borough Service.
This decision has been made after careful consideration and in consultation with our local NHS ADHD service. It is essential that we ensure the highest standard of care for all our patients within the resources and expertise available to us.
We understand this may be disappointing, but we want to assure you that this decision was not taken lightly. Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our patients, and we believe this step is necessary to maintain the quality of care you deserve.
For those who are currently under the care of private ADHD providers, we recommend discussing your options directly with your provider. We can offer to refer you to our local NHS provider with submission of your private ADHD assessment report for further support.
